Feed Your Skin & Let It Do Its Job

Your skin is probably one of the most important organs of your body. Every internal organ has a vital role to keep the human body operating.

For example, the heart keeps the body freshly supplied with oxygen and nutrients, while clearing away harmful waste matter according to National Geographic. The liver filters the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it to the rest of the body. The liver also detoxifies chemicals and metabolizes drugs states WebMD; they both have their own critical functions.

The skin is like a mirror to what we are unable to see internally. If we were to have perfect skin as a part of our biology and the skin didn’t perform its task, how would we prevent long-term health issues if the signs didn’t show up on the outside?

An acne breakout is nothing more than a health issue, not a beauty issue. Since our skin is the body's largest organ, it deserves the same respect as our internal organs, if not more so. The skin knows how to heal and maintain itself. Thus, our job in skincare is not to fix the skin, but to to let the skin do its job.

Now, this doesn’t mean we should neglect the skin. We want to support it by feeding our bodies with a nutritious diet.

According to Healthline, foods such as tomatoes, avocados, fatty fish and broccoli are some of the best foods to feed the skin. They provide vitamins, minerals and proteins that your skin needs to do maintenance work on the cellular level. In other words, eat the rainbow in the least processed, most whole and natural way possible.
