Damage From Negative Self-Talk is Both Physical & Mental
Why is it so easy for women to compliment another woman? But when it comes to ourselves, we’re our worst critics?
When we complain about every wrinkle, mole, pimple, or ounce of fat that lives on our faces and bodies, we inflict ourselves with negative criticism and, believe it or not, it’s damaging.
The result of constant negative self-talk produces mental toxins that we generate with our minds, sometimes as a result of low self-esteem.
According to elite daily, the way you view yourself is so powerful that, in a 2013 study, researchers at the Florida State University College of Medicine found that normal-weight teenagers, who thought they were overweight, were more likely to become obese later in life.
This proves how powerfully negative thoughts not only affect you mentally, but physically.
One way we can minimize negative self-talk is by reciting positive affirmations. Scientific research even shows the psychological effects of self-affirmation to be beneficial. When we engage in self-affirmations, according to NCBI, they “can restore self-competence by allowing individuals to reflect on sources of self-worth.”
Simply, the more we meditate on positive truths, the more true they become in our minds and ultimately in our lives. Watch this uplifting and beautiful conversation featuring celebrity makeup artist & healthy beauty expert, Kristen Arnett, explaining the power of engaging in self-affirmations.
