Why Spring and Fall Are The Best Times To Detox
There is a natural order to everything and in how we should care for our bodies; it naturally wants to be in sync with the rhythms, and changes of our environment.
According to Paula Pister, an Ayurvedic Lifestyle & Wellness Coach and yoga teacher, a seasonal cleanse allows the body to expel any build-up of toxins living in your system during the prior season.
That’s why when spring arrives, the “human body craves detoxification and longs to shed the extra weight of winter”, states Leslie Morrison, lifestyle blogger of Deliciously Plated.
And similarly, when the Fall arrives, the body is ready to shift from the summer indulgences of fruit and into a preservation mode. Completing a fall detox can help prepare your body for these changes.
It’s crucial to listen to your body so you know when to give yourself a reboot. According to The Refinery, some signs that it may be time for a detox is when your experiencing allergies, digestive problems, fatigue, acne or other skin issues, bad breath, bad circulation, headaches, bloating, and weight gain.
By doing a simple cleanse or detox you should see immediate improvements and benefits including better sleep, more energy, improved digestion, clearer skin, weight loss, and reduce cravings.
During a detox, eating seasonal foods support season specific needs. In the springtime, foods that support the liver are plentiful.
According to Tiffany Cruikshank, yoga teacher and author trained in acupuncture and sports medicine, it’s best to eat alkalizing vegetables during this time such as spinach, lettuce, snap peas, asparagus, celery, and berries; cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower; and bitter greens such as kale, dandelion greens, and chard.
While in the fall, foods that nourish and provide sustenance are more readily available.
Fall vegetables tend to be packed with vitamin C and minerals to help us prepare for surviving the winter. Fresh produce like apples, beets, carrots, cabbage, fennel and pomegranates are at the peak of their ripeness and are more nutritious.
As we are transitioning to fall, we are looking forward to our detox with Dr. Trevor Cates and Salome Sallehy starting September 9! You can register at www.naturalbeautysummit.org.
This online workshop featuring Dr. Cates' two-week skin cleanse program will give you the basic step-by-steps on how to detox your body for clearer, healthier skin.
Together, we will attend 3 group sessions with Dr. Cates to help guide us through the process and support each other through daily group discussions to track our progress.
